Classes, Extensions, and Safety Check

February 11, 2008 / by hopefields

My son's classes start on Tuesday.  He is not in high school anymore, but is taking competency classes.  There are five phases to the classes and then he will receive a high school diploma.  He is now on his second phase.  This one is on government and law.  He goes to classes two nights a week for three hours each class.  His first class he did really well...scoring a C for the class.  I am very proud of him.  I saw him study several nights, which led him to get a good grade for the class.  He will be 17 in April.  They sure do grow up fast!  The next thing he needs to do is to get a job now.  He's been putting in applications, so hopefully he will get a job soon.  I want his time to be balanced wisely.  He has surprised me several times this past week...cleaning his room without being told, taking out the trash, and washing dishes.

My daughter is doing well.  She really wants hair extensions and found some at a great price.  Her dad told her he would get them for her.  When she gets them, I will try to post a picture of her.  She is still being homeschooled.  The curriculum we got for her covers the four core subjects, plus  the extra subject of Bible.  There are practice papers, self-tests, alternate tests, and final tests for each book.  She loves doing the work in the books.  Next year, I am going to try to get her into an online charter school.  We didn't get to them in time to do it this year.  So, hopefully, next year she will get into it.

Tomorrow I will be going to JIffy Lube to get my safety check on the car and then it's time to pay the registration.  Hopefully, my tires are all still good and I will pass the safety check.  Well, it's about one in the morning...I guess I should try getting some sleep.

Congrats to your son. He is growing up, isn't he. Why did you decide to home school your daughter? We don't have too many in our area that are home schooled, but many go to Christian schools. I hope you have a good day!

The high school in our district is not a very good school.  There was entirely too much drama.  She felt she would do better home schooled than attending classes.  She was given a hard time because she is white, as well as being short for her age.  Kids kept giving her a hard time.
