I am about to write about something that is probably going to attract some people like bees to honey. However, I am going to write it anyway! I used to vote Republican...USED to. I am saddened by many Republicans that are Christians and the way in which they represent God through their view of politics and hotly debated issues. I may not agree with the personal choice of many people, but that does not give me a right to slam them or their viewpoints. I believe that many Christians must take a closer look at how Jesus handled things when he walked this earth. Granted, he did rebuke some for what they were doing; however, it was a loving rebuke .. it was nothing like the rebukes we see today "in the name of God."
I am a Christian; although, some would disagree after this post. I cannot believe that God looks down on some of this behavior and says, "Well done, my good and faithful servant." I believe that he weeps when such behavior occurs. You see, some Republicans go on and on about God, yet, everything in their actions screams hate and intolerance. The way that they verbalize things saddens me. Like I said, I do not agree with some people on certain issues; however, it doesn't give me the right to verbally bash them or their beliefs. I believe that a Christian MUST live, walk, breathe, God's love. 1 Corinthians chapter 13, verses 4-8 talks about what love is.
"Love is kind and patient, never jealous, boastful, proud, or rude. Love isn't selfish or quick tempered. It doesn't keep a record of wrongs that others do. Love rejoices in the truth, but not in evil. Love is always supportive, loyal, hopeful, and trusting. Love never fails!"
There is a way to talk to another person that we may disagree with. It is the way mentioned above. It is not to bash a person and speak out very harsh and inappropriate words just because we do not agree with them. We will not see others come to God by spitting out cruel and hateful words! We must represent God.
On another note, I have watched as President Bush cut back on budgets that were in dire need of funding. For instance, domestic violence and abuse. If I'm not mistaken, he has cut the funding to many programs. I feel that is wrong. I witnessed first hand on some of the programs that lost funding. We must protect our women and children on our own country. They will not be properly and adequately protected with cuts to the budgets of the programs that would otherwise be able to help them.
So, as I said earlier, I used to vote Republican. I am saddened by the behaviors, actions, and words of some. I now will be voting Democratic.

Well said! It is our privilege to disagree, but it is not our right to attack the person. That is one of the major devices in propaganda--attack the man rather than the issue. I find it very inappropriate.
Yes, that's what the candidates are doing now, right? Don't most candidates do this? It seems they go for the jugular.
Well said. They hace turned me mean! Arrg
What a well-written piece! Even if I disagreed with you, I can say that things are very clearly stated and, therefore, it makes a lot of sense. (By the way, I DO agree with you.)
As I've stated before, conservatism does not translate into an excuse to be hostile, violent, hateful, or self-righteous. (In all fairness, liberalism should not be any of those things, either, so I would object to a liberal behaving that way, too.) From what I have seen, though, it is the Republican party that is most often guilty of this.
I, too, see that the Republican party does not necessarily seek the best for ALL people because what they strive for tends to be more suitable to the interests and needs of only those with similar interests and needs. Democrats seek to do what is best for EACH AND EVERY person and each one's personal wants and needs, yet still allows options for those who do not agree or feel a need to fully subscribe to the policies. I'm afraid that Republicans would allow for a country divided while Democrats would not rest unless the country is united.
Because of everything I've stated and even more, I will NOT be voting Republican!
Thank you for writing what I was trying to say. I'm new at writing about politics. As a matter of fact, I am new to politics in general. But what you posted above is exactly what I had been trying to say.
Sorry kid, you lost me completely. How does becomming a Democrat in any way make you a better Christian? If you cannot see the inherant evil of the socialist programs being promoted by Dems you have to at least have enough sense to see that the abortion laws they foist on us would never be approved by your Lord and savior.
I'm sorry, I wasn't trying to insinuate that becoming a Democrat makes me a better Christian.
That is one reason I turned my back on God and Christianity for several years while I studied Wiccanism. And even now though I consider myself a Buddhist I still believe in God and cannot stand organized religion. I know enough about the bible to know that even if being gay is a sin....I am still to be loved....a christian may not like me being gay but they can still love and respect me and treat me with dignity....and lead with love not hate. HUGS K...sure do miss you and the kids.
I think that you are right...you are still to be loved. I guess that is what makes me so angry sometimes is that people think because someone is gay it gives them a license to be rude to them. I don't know....I know not everyone will like how I feel about it.
We miss you too, my friend. I was thinking about you two yesterday. We'll have to meet sometime and hang out. :)
